Medaille College will host a six-week spring training baseball program for players in grades 1 through 12 from Jan. 20 to Feb. 24, 2008.

Medaille College head coach Ron Nero will direct the program in conjunction with Midwest Baseball Academy.

Sessions are offered in advanced hitting and pitching at a cost of $99 for six weeks. Space is limited. Registration is now under way.

Francis Lagona Jr., a 15-year-old who bowls for St. Joe's Collegiate Institute, shot a 300 on Nov. 10 in a Future Stars Saturday morning league at Manor II Lanes.

Junior guard Megan Rumschik, a Williamsville East graduate and Amherst native, scored a career-high 10 points in Ithaca College's 101-39 win over Hartwick College.

Cleveland Hill will be hosting the 2007 Frederick J. Puff Memorial Boys Swim Meet on Saturday, Dec. 29, and is seeking other varsity teams to participate.

The cost of participation is $20 per team. Warm-ups for the meet will begin at 9 a.m., with the actual competition slated to kick off at 10.

East Amherst resident Steve Berus helped the Rochester Institute of Technology men's swimming and diving team to a third place finish at the 23rd annual Don Richards Invitational Tournament held Nov. 30 in the Gordon Fieldhouse.

Berus, also a Williamsville North High School graduate, finished third in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:21.31. The 200-yard medley relay team of Schneider, Baudoin, Berus, and Kaemmerlen placed second in a time of 1:40.34.

Kara Powalski of Williamsville recently signed a National Letters of Intent to swim for Canisius College.

Powalski is a four-year member of the swim team at Mount St. Mary Academy, swimming in the sprint freestyle and backstroke events.

A two-time team MVP, Powalski earned First-Team All-Catholic League honors as a senior while recording the most points of any swimmer for Mount St. Mary's. Powalski also has played four years of lacrosse for the Thunder.

Joe Kling, a Getzville native and St. Joesph's Collegiate Institute graduate, was named Geneseo State College student-athlete of the week for the week of Dec. 3-9.

Kling, a senior biology major, totaled 33 points with 13 rebounds and seven assists in two wins.
