Joseph C. Mancuso, CEO of Mercantile Adjustment Bureau

Joseph C. Mancuso, 69, of Williamsville, died on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007 at Hospice Buffalo in Cheektowaga.

Born in Buffalo, Mr. Mancuso was a graduate of Bishop Fallon High School. He received bachelor's and master's degrees in education from the University at Buffalo, a master's degree in counseling from the University of New Hampshire and a doctorate in English from the University of Southern California where he was a National Defense Education Act fellow. He received a certification in English literature from the University of London.

Mr. Mancuso served in the Army Reserve from 1960 to 1962.

He was chief executive officer of Mercantile Adjustment Bureau in Williamsville.

He taught English at Nichols School in Buffalo and St. Paul's School in Concord, N.H., in the 1960s. He also taught English at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Mr. Mancuso worked for the New York State Assembly as chief of correspondents in the early 1970s.

He founded the technical writing program at the University of North Texas. He also authored three textbooks on business writing and published the magazine Runners Index. He worked for Bee Group Newspapers after retirement.

An athlete, Mr. Mancuso was a body builder and a runner who completed the White Rock Marathon in Dallas in 1979. He was a member of Alpha Phi Delta Fraternity and an advocate for stroke awareness.

He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Kelli Mancuso; two sons, Andrew, of Dallas, and Nat, of Williamsville; one daughter, Sara, of Dallas; and two brothers, Charles P. and Paul of Buffalo.

Services were held on Monday, Dec. 10 at Amigone Funeral Home in Amherst and SS. Peter and Paul Church in Williamsville.
