Careless smoking blamed for Alberta Drive fire

Eggertsville Hose Company firefighters were called to a house fire on Alberta Drive at 2 p.m. Dec. 5.

After quickly extinguishing the fire, crews found the cause to be careless smoking. Chief Michael Boehm led the call.

The fire was contained to a bedroom, and damage was estimated at $25,000 for the contents and structure.

The owner, Lenore Banks, went to a neighbor's, saying her house was filled with black smoke. The neighbor called Amherst Fire Control.

North Bailey and Snyder fire departments assisted.
