School News St. Mary's High School in Lancaster named the honor roll students for the first quarter of the 2007-08 school year. The following are Amherst residents: seniors Brittany Carleton, Cassandra Carleton, Robert Hamilton, Brittany Lampart, Douglas Robinson, Leonardo Storniolo; junior Kathryn Hamilton; sophomore Alex Beilman; freshman Grace Daigler. Laurene Schrenk, a student at Williamsville East High School, was honored with the Congressional Award Bronze Medal for completing more than 100 hours of public service, as well as achieving her physical fitness and personal development goals. Rep. Thomas M. Reynolds, R-Amherst, presented the award on Dec. 11. The Wellness Committee at Forest Elementary School in Williamsville decorated two trees for the recent Festival of Trees benefiting Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo. One of the trees won "Best of Festival" Award in the 5-foot tree category. The tree was adorned with more than $700 worth of gift certificates. Kelly Tobin, kindergarten teacher; Lisa Seaborn, special education teacher and wellness facilitator; Kristen Tangeman, IDEAS teacher; Kelly Caputy, special education teacher; Dawn Wurtz, speech therapist; Doreen Zak-Watt, school social worker; and Lauren Watt, volunteer, created the tree. |
