Marie Therese Evert, retired teacher

Marie Therese Evert, 92, of Snyder, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007 at Brothers of Mercy Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Clarence.

Mrs. Evert graduated from Mt. Mercy Academy in 1933 and Buffalo State Teacher's College in 1937.

She taught kindergarten and first grade in the Buffalo Public Schools from 1937 to 1980. During World War II, she was one of the first female inspectors at Chevrolet Motor Plant Aviation Engine 2.

Mrs. Evert was a member of St. Ambrose Church in Buffalo and the New York State Retired Teachers Association. She was the winner of tennis and bowling championships. She enjoyed music, playing piano and organ, and had traveled to various parts of the world, including the Mediterranean, Ireland, Spain and France.

Her husband, Kenneth E., died in 1986. She is survived by one daughter, Sharon Plaut, of Snyder, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at St. Ambrose Church, Buffalo. Arrangements were made by Amigone Funeral Home.
