Caregiver classes

A six-week educational program designed to provide caregivers the tools needed for taking care of themselves will be covered from 6 to 8:30 p.m. now through Saturday, Dec. 10 at ElderWood at Glenwood, 5271 Main St., Williamsville. The six sessions, held weekly, will teach caregivers to reduce stress, improve self-confidence, better communicate feelings and locate helpful resources. Cost for the course is $25. The Center for Inquiry's November movie night will feature the 2006 adventure drama "Blood Diamond," starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Connelly. The film follows a fisherman, a smuggler and a syndicate of businessmen as they match wits over the possession of a priceless diamond in Sierra Leone. SOS meets regularly

The Amherst Secular Organizations for Sobriety support group meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20 at the Center for Inquiry, 1310 Sweet Home Road, Amherst. The group, SOS, or Save Our Selves, meets weekly to support and maintain sobriety for recovering alcoholics and addicts who are uncomfortable with the spiritual nature of traditional 12-step programs. Frog Hair to accept

Christmas donations

Frog Hair Grille and Golf, 7800 Transit Road, near Sheridan Drive, will hold a tree lighting ceremony at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21 to kick off its Christmas Kids Drive. Donations will benefit 30 families in the area. Patrons can bring a new, unwrapped toy or article of warm clothing to the restaurant through Dec. 23 and receive a free drink. Girl Scouts to collect

books for int'l students

Girl Scout Troop 593 will collect new and gently used children's books for international students living in WNY until Saturday, Nov. 24. The scouts, from Williamsville and East Amherst, have placed collections bins at the Amherst Museum, 3755 Tonawanda Creek Road, and the Amherst Public Library at Audubon, 350 John James Audubon Parkway. The books will be distributed to individual students and placed in the Buffalo Public School 45 library to help children learn English.

SOS Friends and Family

The Secular Organizations for Sobriety Friends and Family support group has been made a permanent weekly event. The group's mission is to provide learning and sharing opportunities for family and friends of alcoholics and addicts in an encouraging, confidential, supportive group meeting.
