Mite Blue Sabres defeat Rangers, Bruins

The Mite Blue Sabres opened its season with a 5-4 victory over the Rangers on Nov. 4.

Ethan Barnes, assisted by Reilly Moyer, earned the first goal of the season for the Sabres.

Josh Surowiec and Gabe Rapini were impressive as they teamed up for two consecutive goals. Benjamin Wolfson scored off a nice setup by Adam Pohrte. Pohrte went on to secure the Sabres victory with a sweet breakaway goal with 33 seconds left on the clock.

Evan Kumpf was solid in net as only Justin Engler (hat trick) and Matthew McLean scored for the Rangers.

The Sabres beat the Bruins, 7-3, on Nov. 11.

The Bruins' Trevor Conschafter got the scoring started. The Sabres retaliated with three successive goals. The line of Francisco Martinez, Pohrte, and Wolfson put the Sabres on the board. Wolfson, assisted by Peter Tripi earned the Sabres' second goal.

Matt Drewery showed his speed as he beat two defenders to score in the top shelf. The Bruins responded with a goal by David Balk. Wolfson rallied and earned another Sabre goal less than one minute later. Pohrte displayed his talent, earning two impressive breakaway goals.

Ben Michalowski, assisted by Griffin Tolsma, earned the Bruins' third goal of the contest. However, the Sabres had the last strike as Kumpf went on a rush to earn his first goal of the season. Barnes was stellar in net, using both stick and glove to make many impressive saves throughout the game.

The Sabres' victories would not have been possible without the consistently solid efforts of Elisabeth Sidorski, Leah Czerwinski, Evan Ogra, T.J. Guttuso, Abel Tefera, Jimmy Spence, and Matthew LeFebvre.
