Bee Heard (Editor's note: Call The Bee at 632-0390 and record a one-minute comment on our Bee Heard line. It gives readers an opportunity to comment quickly and candidly on items of local or regional interest. Callers do not have to identify themselves and no callers' names will be used. In the interest of fairness and good taste, The Bee will not publish derogatory or insulting comments. All comments are by our readers and are subject to editing. .Glad the elections are over. Now maybe we can get something done on the Amherst Town Board. .In business, it's the person at the top who takes responsibility when things go wrong, but it seems our Supervisor Satish Mohan and his echo, Shelly Schratz, are always pointing fingers at someone else. I am not impressed. It is outrageous that the town board voted for a budget when they didn't even know the bottom line. They have no one to blame but themselves. .Sure hope the supervisor takes the message, his people were not elected. Time to work together now. .Beginning next month, a large local bank is charging for each ATM transaction. This is outrageous. I can remember when local banks were begging people to use the ATM rather than a teller and touting its being free and convenient. An alternative which I believe is fair is to limit the amount of transactions per month instead of an individual fee. .I just read the police blotter. I wish only the facts were reported, not one's personal opinion. .The full-page ad in The Bee by developers trying to turn Maple Road into another Niagara Falls Boulevard is typical developers' propaganda. The ad said it will increase surrounding property values and calm traffic problems. Since when does more traffic, more pollution, more noise, more crime and more retail stores increase property values? Their proposal will make traffic along Maple Road worse, slowing down and possibly blocking emergency vehicles trying to reach Millard Fillmore Hospital. A traffic impact study must be done. This is the wrong location for such a project. The only one who will benefit from this project is the developer. Don't believe everything you read. And if it's from a developer, don't believe anything you read. .Why are the developers who want to turn Maple Road into a commercial mess putting full-page ads in The Bee? Because if you knew the truth about the whole project, you'd oppose it. If the project was as good as they want you to believe it is, then they wouldn't have to buy a full-page ad to promote it. The town should find a better location where the area can handle the traffic. .Since recycling is a law, I wonder why I never see any recycling bins at the condominiums on Georgian Lane. If it is a law, why doesn't the town enforce it? .Once again, commercial developers are trying to invade Amherst, where they don't belong. This time it's on Maple Road at the old Buffalo Gun Club. A recent ad in The Bee states this project is projected to create millions of dollars in property and sales taxes. Key word here is projected. That is what developers do when they want something that may not be good for the area. They project numbers that sound great but may not be true. Don't believe this propaganda. The only people who will make millions if the town board approves this development are the developers. You and I will be left with higher taxes to solve the traffic and other problems it created. We have enough stores in Amherst already, many of which are empty. .Amherst residents, I hope you noticed the sloppy job the highway department is doing picking up leaves. They leave more leaves on the ground than they pick up. .The Williamsville Wall of Fame breakfast was the best. Really makes you proud to be an alumni of Williamsville. Nice job, Williamsville Education Foundation. .I am reading about the election for the town highway supervisor. What does Ms. Kaminski mean she wants to see the work get done and all the other stuff come to a stop? What is the other stuff? Maybe if we knew, we'd have a more informed election. I really didn't hear anything she was going to do for the Town of Amherst. All I heard was negativity against Mr. Anderson. .When is the village ever going to finish repairing the Main Street sidewalks? They dig up the tree spots, put yellow ribbons around them and let it sit. I almost tripped over it. Come on, get it fixed. |
