Temple to screen peace film Temple Sinai will screen the prize-winning documentary film, "Encounter Point," at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29 at the Temple, 50 Alberta Drive, near Longmeadow in Amherst. The 85-minute film tells the stories of ordinary Israelis and Palestinians who, by reaching out to each other through their common suffering and losses, strive to promote a non-violent end to the conflict. It explores what drives them and thousands of others to overcome anger and grief to work for peaceful, grassroots solutions. "Encounter Point" is a documentary made by the group Just Vision, comprised of young Israeli, Palestinian, North American and Brazilian women, and offers hope that the dream of a peaceful two state solution is possible if people dare to treat others whom are seen as enemies with respect and humanity. It is a film about the everyday leaders in our midst. " It is important that we air this amazing documentary on this the 60th anniversary of the UN's call for a peaceful two-state solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict, especially now that a peace conference is scheduled to be held this month in Annapolis," said Temple Sinai's Rabbi Jerry Seidler. "The film is apolitical, and shows us that peaceful relationships can develop from the recognition of mutual pain and suffering. It is a very human movie." The screening of "Encounter Point" is co-sponsored by Temple Sinai and the Jewish Cultural Arts Festival. A group discussion will follow the viewing. Kosher refreshments will be served. A $5 voluntary offering is appreciated. For more information, call the Temple office at 834-0708. |
