Air Force JV wins Super Bowl, Harry Chambers Cup

The Williamsville Junior Football Air Force JV team finished 10-0 and won the Niagara Youth Football League Super Bowl title and Army for the Harry Chambers Memorial Cup. The Williamsville Junior Football Air Force JV team (10-0) was crowned Niagara Youth Football League Super Bowl champion at the 130-pound level. They followed up with an impressive victory over league rival Army for the Harry Chambers Memorial Cup.

The Air Force entered the playoffs as the top seed of two divisions.

Air Force 13,

Tonawanda Redskins 0

After a scoreless first quarter, the speed of Justin Burke and Cody Stumpf proved to be too much for the big, physical Redskin defense. Burke and Stumpf combined for 185 yards and two touchdowns.

Outstanding defensive performances were put in by Joe McGrath, Dylan Beres, Jasen Starbuck, Hudson Weil, Dan Kiener, Tim Coulter and Rick Recckio.

Air Force 27, Lew-Port 12

The Air Force committed a record number of penalties and had three touchdowns called back in the first half.

The Air Force scored three touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 21-0 lead. Quarterback Blake Carson hooked up with Cody Stumpf and Jasen Starbuck to keep the Spartan defense off-balance.

In the third quarter, Air Force defensive lineman Nick Pera caused a fumble that was picked up by Dylan Beres, who returned it 35 yards for a TD.

The victory was sealed in the fourth quarter by rookie cornerback Tristan Raponi's interception on the Air Force 30.

Chambers Cup Air Force 21, Army 7 A cold, driving rain turned the field to mud and made holding onto the ball a challenge. Numerous fumbles made for a sloppy first half.

After a scoreless first half, the Air Force took control of the line of scrimmage in the second half, led by Rick Recckio, Dan Kiener, Joe Mc- Grath, Tim Coulter, Zack Shute and Jasen Starbuck.

In the third quarter, Justin Burke broke free over the left side and scored on a 60-yard scamper. Cody Stumpf continued to gain tough yards, averaging seven yards per carry in the second half. Stumpf scored on a 10-yard run to put the Air Force ahead, 14-0, going into the fourth.

The Army defense held tough, led by Tom Trabert and Anthony Iaccano.

Later, Stumpf stepped in front of punter Dylan Beres for a fake punt and sped off for a 60-yard TD.
