American Red Cross seeking disaster action volunteers The American Red Cross, Greater Buffalo Chapter is seeking volunteers for its disaster action team. After receiving comprehensive training, volunteers will be able to serve at both the local and national levels. "We are seeking to increase the number of volunteers we have trained to serve during times of disaster," said Ken Turner, director of emergency services. "Disaster action volunteers are called upon to respond to local disasters, such as residential fires, floods and snowstorms, as well as national disasters, such as the wildfires in California." Regularly scheduled training is provided. Interested parties should contact 878-2355 for more information. The Greater Buffalo Chapter of the American Red Cross prepares for, and responds to, community disasters and emergencies and helps people lead safe and healthy lives. The American Red Cross is one of the oldest and largest volunteer driven organizations in the United States and locally depends on the contributions of nearly 1,000 volunteers to provide its emergency service and health education programs. |
