Margaret Elizabeth McCarthy, 72, of Amherst, died on Friday, Nov. 2, 2007 at Sisters of Charity Hospital.

Born in Buffalo, Mrs. McCarthy attended St. Elizabeth High School in Olean, Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, and D'Youville College.

She was an industrial plant nurse at the General Motors plant in Tonawanda for more than 30 years, retiring in 1990.

Mrs. McCarthy did volunteer work with migrant workers, piloted and owned her own airplane, enjoyed flying and reading, and was an active Catholic.

She is survived by her husband of nine years, James F.; and two brothers, Thomas Hayes and Richard Bates.

Services were held on Monday, Nov. 5 at St. Joseph Cathedral. Arrangements were made by Amigone Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
