Team Cure Challenge program seeks participants

Roswell Park Cancer Institute and the Team Cure Challenge program, through the Roswell Park Alliance, is seeking persons 18 and older to fundraise and run or walk in national athletic events on behalf of cancer patients.

Customized training, airfare, hotel accommodations, nutrition tips, transportation and registration fees are provided by the program - participants only need provide "spirit and stamina."

Participants will have the opportunity to join the San Diego Challenge or the San Francisco Challenge.

The Team Cure Challenge program will send its second group of participants to San Diego this year for the "Rock 'N Roll Marathon" to be held on June 1. Last year, three runners completed this San Diego Challenge (a 26.2-mile marathon) and raised nearly $14,500 for cancer research and patient care at Roswell Park. The San Francisco Challenge will take place on Aug. 3.

Runners and walkers are welcome to sign up for the 5K, half marathon or full marathon. Participants should start training at least three months in advance of the Team Cure Challenge of their choice, and are required to attend an information session on one of the following dates: Wednesday, Nov. 7; Monday, Nov. 12; Tuesday, Jan. 9; or Wednesday, Jan. 16. Sessions are held at 6 p.m. in the Gaylord Cary Room in the Research Studies Center, across the street from the main entrance to Roswell, Elm and Carlton streets
