Time Warner to host self defense classes

"Fight Like a Girl" - that's what Oxygen and Time Warner Cable will teach participants to do as part of the "Fight Like A Girl" event taking place at 3 and 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13 at Medaille College. Oxygen and Time Warner Cable will host free specialty classes in self-defense techniques and basic self-awareness, which will be taught by officers from the Buffalo Police Department.

The classes will emphasize prevention and awareness, and teach basic street self-defense techniques. Each class will consist of easy warm-up exercises, followed by helpful strategies to learn how to recognize, assess and avoid assault prone situations. Participants will be allowed to practice some easy to learn physical self-protection and escaping techniques. The instructors will also teach participants how to settle feelings of fear and panic with proper breathing, and how to use assertive voice control.

Limited parking is available at Medaille, but participants can also park for free at the Buffalo Zoo and take the Medaille shuttle to and from the event. The shuttle leaves every 15 minutes.
