Clearfield Library to host National Adoption Month event In recognition of November being National Adoption Month, the Clearfield Library will be holding a book reading and family event. Linda Groat, a Western New York member of Asian Connection, will be reading the recently released book by Sherrie Eldridge, "Forever Fingerprints: An Amazing Discovery for Adopted Children," from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 17 at Clearfield Library, 770 Hopkins Road. Written by adoptee Sherrie Eldridge, the book encourages children to share how they feel about their birth parents, adoption and loss. It is the story of Lucie, whose aunt's pregnancy opens the door for Lucie to talk about babies and the bittersweet feelings she has about her own adoption. Lucie's parents answer her questions with honesty and transparency. The story concludes with Lucie's discovery that her uniquely created fingerprints connect her to her whole family. "Forever Fingerprints" shows children how they can discover their own fingerprints through a fun, hands-on fingerprinting activity. More than 1.5 million adopted children live in the United States. The event will include a fingerprint activity, and will be a way to connect with other adoptive families and for families to find out more about adoption. Interested families may register for the program by calling the Clearfield Library at 688-4955. For additional information about the author and her work, visit www.sherrieeldridge.com. Groat and her family are awaiting the adoption referral of a baby girl from China. |
