East Amherst resident, Lisa Christie-Betha, has been awarded the title of Mrs. Erie County. She will be competing on Nov. 17 in Niagara Falls for the title of Mrs. New York 2008. The winner of the title is awarded the opportunity to compete at the national pageant, Mrs. United States, held annually in Las Vegas. She has chosen the platform of rape prevention and recovery. Canterbury Woods, 705 Renaissance Drive, Williamsville, will hold a slide presentation entitled "Foreign Wars in Afghanistan" at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14. The lecture will be given by journalist and professional speaker B.G. Flickinger. Winning Smiles Pediatric Dentistry is buying back Halloween candy; $1 a pound. The candy will be donated to soldiers in Iraq, and a $1 donated to Buffalo City Mission for each pound brought in. Candy is to be taken to the office, 1525 Amherst Manor Drive. Hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The last day candy will be accepted is Monday, Nov. 19. Mary Kate O'Connell will receive the fourth biennial Marian de Forest Community Service Award from the Zonata Club of Buffalo at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14 at the Snyder Square Theatre.
