Volunteers sought to help fight cancer

Roswell Park Cancer Institute and the Team Cure Challenge program, through the Roswell Park Alliance, are seeking persons 18 and older to fundraise and run or walk in national athletic events on behalf of cancer patients.

Customized training, airfare, hotel accommodations, nutrition tips, transportation and registration fees are provided by the program - participants need only provide spirit and stamina.

Over the past three years, Team Cure Challenge participants have raised more than $340,000 for cancer research and patient care programs at Roswell Park.

This year, participants will once again have the opportunity to join the San Diego Challenge or the San Francisco Challenge.

The Team Cure Challenge program will send its second group of participants to San Diego this coming year for the "Rock 'N Roll Marathon" to be held on June 1.

Last year, three runners completed the San Diego Challenge (a 26.2-mile marathon) and raised nearly $14,500 for cancer research and patient care at Roswell Park.

The San Francisco Challenge, which crosses the Golden Gate Bridge, will take place on Aug. 3. Over the past three years, more than 20 participants have raised more than $83,000 for Roswell Park through the Challenge.

Runners and walkers are welcome to sign up for the 5K, half marathon or full marathon.

Participants should start training at least three months in advance of the Team Cure Challenge of their choice.
