Music plus poetry creates Synergy The newly formed quintet, Synergy, combines poetry and classical music in a performance of the arts. "We combine a poem with specific music; there is an abstract, but it really works," said Lawrence Trott, founder of the group. Trott describes the poetry they use as having a clear, direct message, combined with music that can be interpreted differently. But putting the two together intensifies both, he added. The group will perform at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11 at the Jewish Community Center, 2640 N. Forest Road, Getzville. The event is part of the Jewish Cultural Arts Festival held from Oct. 14 to Dec. 13. Authors, music programs and other cultural events have been planned. Synergy brings together the talents of Leslie Bahler, flutist; Jennifer Coleman, violinist; Rebecca Torres, violinist; and Nancy Baun, cellist. Trott will be the poetry reader and flutist. "The performance is more than just music," Bahler said, adding that the music and message of the poetry makes people think about what being human is about. The performance addresses a range of human emotions from happy to sad. Trott has more than 40 years experience in the music industry. He is retired from the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and also toured as a soloist. "The idea of Synergy is it's exciting and very powerful," he said. "There is a huge range of emotion. It's guaranteed to touch your heart." Tickets are $10 for adults; $5 for students and no charge for children 12 and younger.
