AAA launches new 'Easy Ride' service

AAA Western and Central New York has launched a new personal transportation service in the Amherst area.

"Easy Ride" offers "convenient, and reliable" car rides around town, the company stated.

AAA members who are no longer willing or able to drive can make use of this transportation option.

Tom Chestnut, president and chief executive officer of AAA Western and Central New York, said, "As our members mature, there will be an ever-growing number of individuals who will be no longer able or willing to drive. Easy Ride will assist with their personal transportation needs, providing a convenient way to run errands, keep appointments and visit friends."

The U.S. Census Bureau estimated in 2005 that 35 million people were age 65 or older, and that number is expected to more than double by the year 2030 to 72 million.

"Easy Ride features vehicles that are well-maintained, specifically selected for their comfort and ease of getting in and out, and equipped with on-board cameras for added security. Drivers are certified in first aid and CPR and are specially trained and monitored by AAA," the company stated.

Transportation through Easy Ride is available in 30-minute increments for whatever needs a client may have.

To register, AAA members fill out a registration form available at Western New York AAA Travel and Insurance Centers or call 929-RIDE. More information is also available at AAA.com.

Easy Ride is a pilot program, currently servicing residents within an eight-mile radius of AAA Western and Central New York's headquarters, located at 100 International Drive in Williamsville. Expansion will be dependent upon the demand for the service.
