Brighton Optical celebrated its 40th year in the eye business in October.

Owner Bob Zachary attributes the company's success to changing with the times.

"We were one of the first in the area to go computerized back in the day," the Amherst resident said, noting that he and his staff also keep up with the styles and trends of today's eyewear fashions.

The 3,000-square-foot office, located at 875 Brighton Road near Eggert Road, has a modern, family oriented environment.

The staff of two optometrists and three opticians is a one-stop shop. Patrons can come in for their eye exam and go home with new frames and/or contacts.

Zachary also offers between 1,300 and 1,400 eyeglass frames, including designer wear, such as Dolce & Gabbana, Columbia, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and Revlon. Contact lenses come in different colors and multifocal prescriptions.

Most eyeglasses are manufactured on site, and most insurances are accepted, Zachary said.

"We have a good location," he said. "We keep up with the trends, make sure we take insurances and offer fair prices."

He added that the office employees have been on staff for many years.

"We don't have revolving personnel. We're also not a chain. We are locally owned and operated," he said.

The optometrists are Richard Schwartz and John Brzezicki, and the opticians include Zachary, Terri Bednarski and David Schmidt Jr.

The facility has been in the same plaza since its inception. Zachary joined the company in 1971 and bought it in 1974.
