Williamsville South's field hockey team is one game away from an appearance in the Section VI Class B finals.

South, seeded seventh, defeated 10th-seed West Seneca East, 4-1, last Wednesday, in a prequarterfinal home game and upset second seed Starpoint, 2-1, in double overtime on Friday.

South, 8-8-2, played third-seed Amherst (10-6-2) at Amherst on Tuesday, but the result was unavailable before The Bee went to press.

Kate Kurzanski scored a beautiful goal off a corner situation with Ali Ferenczy to put South up 1-0 on West Seneca East. Ten minutes before the half, Darragh Kerr assisted on Blair Pembleton's goal. Pembleton, a freshman, was called up from JV.

In the second half, Ali Ferenczy centered the ball for a goal by Lauren Falzone, and Sarah Hunt had the assist on Kelly Klapper's goal. West Seneca East scored once past goalie Megan Hull.

Starpoint scored first to go up 1-0 at halftime. In the second half, Ashley Ferenczy scored with Kerr assisting.

In the second overtime, Ashley Ferenczy passed the ball to Kurzanski, who scored.
