Turnovers cost South football versus Pioneer A 21-point shift in 12 seconds against Pioneer last Thursday ended Williamsville South's chances of winning its second game of the season. Trailing 14-7 to start the second quarter, a South punt was blocked at the South 30, rolled to the 22 and returned for a Pioneer TD. On the first play of South's next offensive series, quarterback Chris Hauser fumbled on a run and Pioneer recovered at the South 31. Pioneer scored on the next play and went on to defeat South, 57-22. "It was a close game until we turned the ball over on the blocked punt," said South coach Kraig Kurzanski. "It really changed the outcome of the game." South opened the game with an 81-yard drive that ended with an interception by Hauser in the Pioneer end zone. Pioneer would go on an eight-play drive and score. Hauser would redeem himself, running in a 5-yard TD. Zack Murray kicked the extra point. Pioneer led 36-7 at halftime. South got second half TDs from an 87-yard kick return by Tim Krempa (Krempa kicked extra point) and a 10-yard TD pass from Hauser to Jake Keim. Kevin O'Connell caught the two-point conversion. Hauser finished 13 of 26 for 134 yards, one TD and two interceptions. He also ran 16 times for 80 yards. Krempa had six catches for 82 yards. Yahs Williams and Anthony Erbacher led the South defense with eight tackles each. Kurzanski brought up many JV players, including sophomores Tyler Krempa and Dan Erbacher, who got to play on the field at the same time on offense and defense with their older brothers, Anthony Erbacher and Tim Krempa. South closed out its season on Tuesday at Lake Shore. The result was unavailable before The Bee went to press. e-mail: pnagy@beenews.com |
