SSPP swim team defeats St. John's

The SS. Peter and Paul-St. John's swim meet held Sunday afternoon at Sweet Home High School ended with a 128-121 win for the SSPP Knights.

The 9-10 division led the team to victory by taking first and second places in every individual and relay event.

The team's first place winners were Marissa Olsen with two first places, Matt Ruggiero, Katie Colson, and Peter Weimer.

Second place points were added by Alexandra Sommer, Evan Manna, Lauren Shine, Jason Brick and Valerie Mueller. The medley relay of Olsen, Weimer, Ruggiero and Brick took first place while the medley relay of Sommer, Mueller, Venditti and Manna took second place. The free relay consisting of Ruggiero, Shine, Colson and Brick placed first.

The eight and under swimmers won their age group with two first places won by Charles Weimer. Mark Venditti and Claire Noe also scored first place wins.

Adding points with second and third place finishes were Jessica Shine, Jacob Barberio, Mark Venditti and Garrett Braniecki.

The free relay team of Noe, Shine, Braniecki and Travis Porterfield won first place. The medley relay took second place with Barberio, Braniecki, Brynn Cowe and Ivan Nietopski.

Despite not taking any first places this meet, SSPP's 11 and up division added points to the win with strong second place finishes by Kathleen Ruggiero. Rachel Kuechle's two second places were determined by less than a half of a second.

Third place points went to Rachael Nasca, Samantha Basile and Claire Haumesser. The free relay team of Basile Ruggiero, Kuechle and Allyson Costanza placed second in the meet while the medley relay of Ruggiero, Basile, Clare Costello and Marla Calabro placed third.
