Sports briefs The Amherst Knights' girls 16U hockey team played to a 4-4 tie with a team from Oakville last Saturday at the Joshua Creek Arena in Oakville, Ont. What's most impressive is that the team played the first half of the game without a goalie due to an equipment problem. Although Rachel Woloszynski scored a natural hat trick during the contest, the team still trailed by one goal late in the third period. With the goalie again out of the nets, Knight sniper Chelsea Larkin tied the contest with under a minute left to even the score. Williamsville South's girls tennis team beat Tonawanda, 3-1, last Monday and lost to Clarence, 4-1, last Tuesday in the the Silver Flight team championships. Stephanie Berland recorded South's only point against Clarence. First doubles was cancelled because of rain. Ellen Meyers will represent South at the Section VI singles tournament on Friday and Saturday at the Miller Tennis Center. SS. Peter and Paul's eighth grade Blue volleyball team ended its season with a close win over St. Greg's, 17-25, 25-20, 25-22. The team ended 8-8 overall; 6-4 in the division. The team is comprised of Hollie Canacari, Jessica Clark, Taryn Courneen, Victoria Erdman, Maurey Fields, Briana Fuentes, Laura Galante, Hope Genco, Rachael Nasca, Alexis Parry, Francesca Ramierez and Rachel Spencer. SSPP awaits a possible appearance in the Nov. 3 tournament. Williamsville East High School graduate and Williamsville resident Jennifer Anthone was named Geneseo State College student-athlete of the week. Anthone won the 50- and 100-yard freestyles in 24.95 and 55.30, respectively at the Geneseo Invitational on Saturday. Geneseo took first with 293 points.
