Motorist using brakes causes confusion

(Editors note: The Bee's police blotter is a sampling of unusual, sometimes humorous calls received by the police department. It is not intended to be a complete record of all incidents reported.)

Friday, Oct. 19

• Police were called to a Niagara Falls Boulevard bar where a 25-year-old male was giving employees a hard time after they stopped serving him.

• A man, sitting in a chair outside of a building on Sheridan Drive, was "making people nervous." He was gone when police arrived.

• A Wellingwood Drive resident called police when the complainant was unable to catch a rabbit that was running in circles on the front lawn. The animal reportedly had an injured leg.

• A man called police because his intoxicated girlfriend took his keys and wallet from him on Main Street and refused to give them back. Police reported he sounded intoxicated too.

• Harassment was reported on Bailey Avenue involving a man who followed the complainant to the post office and then displayed a badge, stating, "if I wasn't a cop I would kick yours ... ." The complainant said he felt the man wasn't a cop.

Saturday, Oct. 20

• A Presidio Place resident reported that several bottles of beer and wine coolers were taken from a refrigerator that is in the garage.

• A MacArthur Drive resident observed an older kid running through the yard, and left behind a 12-pack of beer in the front lawn. The resident disposed of the alcohol.

• On Harlem Road, a parent called police when the 16-year-old daughter refused to come home. The complainant said it was an ongoing issue.

• Someone reported to police that a young woman was driving on Interstate-290 while talking on the phone, drinking coffee and weaving in and out of traffic. Police were unable to locate her.

Sunday, Oct. 21

• An Eggert Road resident complained that youths in the area were yelling and jumping on a trampoline with a spotlight shining on the back yard. Police responded and found the area was quiet, with no sign of kids nor spotlights, but did see a trampoline.

• Police received a hang-up 911 call from a Springville Avenue residence and upon call backs the phone was busy. Reportedly a father was sending his son to his room and when the son refused to go the father started to carry him to the room when the boy called 911. All was calm when police arrived.

• A Via Foresta Lane resident reported her vehicle was in an accident, while it was parked in her driveway. Reportedly the pizza delivery man hit the vehicle.

• Someone called from South Long Street to tell police that youths were on a trail, pushing a bike over a cliff, over and over again, trying to destroy it.

• A North Ellicott Street resident had crab apples thrown at the side of the house during the night.

Monday, Oct. 22

• Police were called to Meyer Road about youths yelling in the lot. It may have been girls pledging a sorority.

• An intoxicated man was reported on Main Street. He was barely able to walk but was trying to get into cars.

• A motorist called police from North French Road, stating the driver ahead of the complainant was riding his brakes and making the complainant confused. The complainant was unsure if he was going to stop or not.

• Police were called about a woman who was covering her face and walking down the middle of Sheridan Drive. She was gone when patrol arrived.

Tuesday, Oct. 23

• Police were called to Pino Verde Lane to assist a dad who had been locked out of the house by his 3-year-old child.

• An accident was reported on Heim Road where two school buses backed into each other. No injuries were reported.

• A suspicious vehicle was reported on Paradise Road for following a school bus. The person in the vehicle was a parent of one of the students and wanted to know how long the bus ride was.

• A house that had been vacant on North Bailey Avenue for more than a month had all the copper piping ripped out.

Wednesday, Oct. 24

• An alarm was set off in a Waterford Parkway residence while the owner was in the shower and he said he didn't know how it went off. Police believed it was due to the cat.

• A welfare check was requested on North Bailey Avenue for a woman, dressed in all black with a white beanie-type cap on, who was carrying a suitcase. Reportedly the woman would walk a few steps then start talking to an imaginary person.

• A Main Street resident reported harassment involving youths who walked home from school. Reportedly one of the students had mooned the complainant the day before.

• A 2-year-old child locked the mom out of a house on Wood Acres Drive. Mom was able to open the door and the child was fine.

Thursday, Oct. 25

• Both drivers involved in an incident on Sheridan Drive called police. Reportedly a woman was "irate" a man pulled out in front of her, and reportedly he couldn't see her because her headlights weren't on. Both were advised to continue on their ways.

• On Denrose Drive a group of youths were reported for letting air out of cars' tires that are parked on the street.

• An Ava Lane resident complained about a neighbor that put bowls of anti-freeze out in the back yard. They were put out there to kill skunks but the complainant was worried about youths and other animals in the area. The bowls were taken in.

• The manager of a neighboring gas station on Maple Road was concerned about a sign that was put in the door stating, "Be back in 15 minutes," so police were called for a welfare check. They discovered the worker at the station was ill and was waiting for relief so he closed temporarily.

• A dog, wearing a muzzle, was wondering in and out of traffic on Main Street. It was gone when police arrived.

• A Hilton Boulevard resident complained to police that two large pumpkins were stolen from the front porch.
