Stop made for speeding results in DWI, narcotics charges

Amherst Police Officer David Solak stopped a vehicle on Maple Road at 3:29 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 25 for speeding and subsequentially charged the driver with a felony count for possession.

Shawn Baranyi, 41, of Carriage Hill, Williamsville, was stopped for traveling at a high rate of speed, according to the officer. He was given field sobriety tests at the scene.

After questioning, Solak charged Baranyi with criminal possession of narcotics, a C felony; driving while intoxicated; a violation for possession of marijuana; reckless driving; and other traffic violations.
