Williamsville residents honored at Jewish Federation meeting

Deputy Consul General of Israel Benjamin Krasna will be the featured speaker at the 104th annual meeting of the Jewish Federation of Greater Buffalo, chaired by Julie Kianof, at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5 at the JCC's Benderson Family Building, 2640 N. Forest Road, Getzville.
Maxine Awner of Williamsville will receive the Dr. Milton and Ruth H. Kahn Young Leadership Award, and Sheldon Yellen, also a Williamsville resident, will receive the Dr. Meyer and Ann S. Riwchun Award.
Awner is vice president of investments with Merrill Lynch where she has worked for the past 18 years. She has served on the Board of Governors of the Jewish Federation for the past two years, is a member of the Women's Campaign Cabinet and is active in the Young Women's Division.
She will be participating in the new Women's Leadership Power Program and participates on Temple Beth Zion's Mitzvah Day Committee, the March of Dimes Gala Committee, the Children's Hospital Annual Golf Auction, and the Elmwood Franklin School Auction. She is also active in Hadassah.

Yellen is currently a partner in Mr. Fox Tire Company. Previously he was the president and owner of Lancaster Steel Service Company and served on industry boards and organizations. He has been the chair of the Jewish Federation's Young Men's Division and chair of the General Division. He sits on the Federation's Board of Governors and on the Planning & Allocation Committee.
He has been a board member of Jewish Federation Housing and now serves as vice president. Yellen was also active in the Kadimah School Capital Campaign.
As deputy consul general of Israel in New York, Krasna coordinates the political work in the consulate in the tri-state area, developing relationships with national, state and local officials. He also maintains regular contact with those following major foreign policy and strategic issues, including at think tanks and the elite academic institutions. In this capacity, he is also responsible in furthering ties between the U.S. and Israel on Homeland Security.
