Village committee shouldn't be labeled I am sorry that the editorial writer of the Amherst Bee chose to label some members of the Williamsville Community Planning Committee "micromanagers," with "egos," "personal agendas," and "tastes." We are a diverse group made up of a developer, a business representative, various members of village committees and home owners who have volunteered and spent the last year trying to come up with a vision. Does that mean we can't put forward and express opposing opinions? Surely your newspaper understands the importance of an open and free discussion of ideas and clarification of terms in our society. All of us realize the significance of the Mill, traffic problems and our neighborhood; especially when it relates to issues of location, density, character and quality of life. On Nov. 6, we will finalize our efforts and just as your writer does each week in the editorial column, present a perspective - a perspective of how we perceived the present, tried to preserve the past and prepare for the future. It is up to the next group, the macroministers of public opinion and elected officials, who will ultimately determine its destiny. That is as it should be, the democratic process, all inclusive, free of labels. Charles Rizzone Community Plan Committee member |
