Milo to the rescue

A magical gateway launches Milo on a quest to rescue princesses in the Lands Beyond in the Theatre of Youth's production of "The Phantom Tollbooth," through Sunday, Nov. 11.

Milo is very bored with his extraordinarily ordinary life, until he receives a mysterious package that carries him to the Lands Beyond, where the Kingdom of Wisdom is torn by a war between rival cities of words and numbers.

With the help of Tock, the timekeeping dog, the blustering Humbug and a wild cast of characters who equip him with tools for his quest - Milo must restore peace in the kingdom by rescuing the Princesses Rhyme and Reason from the Castle in the Air.

When Milo returns home, he realizes there is never a reason to be bored in a world full of so many things to discov er.

"The Phantom Tollbooth," by Susan Nanus, was adapted from the novel by Norton Juster.

Directed by Meg Quinn, the cast includes Christopher LaBanca, Bryan Patrick Stoyle, Kevin Keleher, Rebecca Elkin, Matthew LaChiusa, Sarielys Matos, Andrew King, Bret McCormick, Rolando Martin Gomez and Gordon Tashjian.

Performances are at 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, Nov. 3 and 4, 10 and 11, and 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9 at the Allendale Theatre, 203 Allen St., Buffalo.
