Amherst students excel on AP tests

Fifty-three students at Amherst Central High School have earned the designation of Advanced Placement Scholars by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement Program exams.

The College Board's Advanced Placement Program offers students the opportunity to take challenging college-level courses while still in high school and to receive college credit, advanced placement or both for successful performance on the AP Exams.

At Amherst Central High School, four students qualified for the National AP Scholar Award by earning an average grade of 4 or higher on a 5-point scale on all AP exams taken and grades of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams. These students are Ariel Binder, Eli Lasker, Shuchen Song and Andrew Wong.

Song qualified for a State AP Scholar Award. The designation of State AP Scholar is granted to the one male and one female student in each state and the District of Columbia with grades of 3 or higher on the greatest number of AP exams (at least three exams) and then the highest average grade (at least 3.5) on all AP Exams taken.

Fourteen students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. These students are Ariel Binder, Eve Guterman, Sara Heidinger, Lisa Kulka, Eli Lasker, Ian Murray, Nicholas Reynolds, Nicholas Sarraf, Jonathan Schutrum, Shuchen Song, Megan Weaver, William Wieczorek, Andrew Wong and Fangfei Zheng.

Six students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. These students are Nathan Boyar, Brianne Burton, Danielle Pizzuto, Andrea Pratt, Elizabeth Reid and Benjamin Somogyi.

Twenty-eight students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP examinations with grades of 3 or higher. The AP Scholars are William Africano, Allison Bauer, Alex Bronnenkant, Peter Caffarelli, Alejandro Carbonara, Qianlan Cheng, Brighid Connors, Erin Cotter, Julianna Crumlish, Alexandra Gilewicz, William Gowen, Julie Halm, Michael Hong, Ellen Janicki, Junghyun Kim, Ariella Korn, Matthew Krajna, Cydney Kramer, Sarah Lister, Ryan Menasco, Violet Pena, Alexander Portin, Ruizhe Ren, Kenneth Schmidt, Thomas Stofko, Samuel Suggs, Robert Travers and Melissa Tschamler.
