At the 27th annual meeting of the Network in Aging of Western New York, Inc., the organization presented its "Dr. Evan Calkins Award" to David Dunkelman, president and CEO of Weinberg Campus. Its "Program of Excellence Award" was presented to The MultiDisciplinary Coordinating Council on Elder Abuse.

Every year the Network in Aging honors an individual for meritorious service in assisting the elderly with the "Dr. Evan Calkins Award." The award is presented to an individual who is an advocate on behalf of the elderly, who has made a positive contribution to the delivery of services to the elderly, increased public awareness of adverse conditions affecting the elderly, and expanded the understanding of the aging process through research and/or education.

"For more than 20 years, David Dunkelman has been leading Western New York into the future of aging at Weinberg Campus," said his nominator. "David has guided the development of Weinberg Campus, which has won awards for architecture design, non-profit management, and for its Total Aging in Place Program. The Weinberg Campus nursing home has received national acclaim for its clustered approach to care."

Dunkelman currently serves on the New York State Task Force on Adult Home Facilities and Assisted Living Residencies. Ad- ditionally, he has been a member of the Publications Committee of The Journal of Jewish Communal Service and a member of the Niagara University Nursing Home Advisory Board in Niagara Falls. He has published widely and has consulted nationally and internationally.

The Network also recognizes a program or organization with the "Program Award of Excellence" each year. This award was established to showcase a program that has been successfully implemented to enhance the Western New York geriatric citizenry.

The 2007 recipient of this award, The MultiDisciplinary Coordinating Council on Elder Abuse was established in 1989.

The group consists of representatives from law enforcement, social service, the judicial system and the health fields.
