Junior Blues turn the corner
      The Junior Blues of the Buffalo In-line Hockey Group had been floundering, losing three in a row and looking disorganized in the process. Last Saturday, a new system was installed and it appears that they may have found something. Every player on the Junior Blues roster had at least one point.

      The Amherst Knights' girls 16U hockey team played to a 4-4 tie with a team from Oakville last Saturday at the Joshua Creek Arena in Oakville, Ont. What's most impressive is that the team played the first half of the game without a goalie due to an equipment problem.

SSPP swim team defeats St. John's
      The SS. Peter and Paul-St. John's swim meet held Sunday afternoon at Sweet Home High School ended with a 128-121 win for the SSPP Knights. The 9-10 division led the team to victory by taking first and second places in every individual and relay event.

Amherst football closes season with optimism

      The Amherst Central football team couldn't have ended the 2007 season any better. The Tigers (3-6) scored 14 points in the second quarter and an additional 19 points in the third quarter to beat Newfane, 33-7, last Wednesday. It was Amherst's second straight win.

Amherst bows out in quarterfinals
      Amherst Central's girls soccer season ended in the Section VI Class A prequarterfinals. Amherst, seeded ninth, fell to eighth-seed Albion, 3-2, last Tuesday. Amherst trailed 2-1 at halftime but Albion's Kristen Palmer scored the game-winning goal two minutes into the second half to make it 3-1.
