Who will be the next Town Board members?
Election 2007 is Tuesday

      It's decision time, Amherst residents - and there are many to make. This year's election has been nothing short of intense, with seven candidates vying for three board seats and only one incumbent in the mix. Also making the voting process more elaborate is the addition of three propositions.

Budget adopted - total, tax levy unknown at time of vote

      The 2008 Town of Amherst budget total was not known at the time the spending plan was voted upon. The vote taken was to "adopt the budget as amended." The fiscal impact of the resolutions amending the tentative budget had not been tallied at the end of the five-hour budget meeting on Monday.

Suneel's Light raises research funds for rare disorder

      When the school day is done for Suneel Ram, and the workday ends for his mom, Dr. Neera Gulati, their challenges are far from over. That is because Suneel's disorder, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, requires attention all the time, Gulati, a Williamsville resident, said.

Teacher accused of rape held on $100,000 bail, felony hearing Nov. 1
      Amherst police have a Tonawanda man in custody, accused of seven counts of rape involving a student at Sacred Heart Academy, where he was a teacher. James Van Valkinburgh, 42, of Byron Ave., in Tonawanda, was arrested Friday, Oct. 26. As of press time, he was being held on $100,000 bail in the Er...

Turn clocks back one hour
      Residents are reminded that Daylight Savings Time will end at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 4. Clocks should be turned back one hour when retiring for the evening on Saturday, Nov. 3. Emergency officials also suggest the time change is a good opportunity to replace batteries in smoke detectors.
