Spartan boys cross country split dual meets Last Tuesday, Williamsville North's boys cross country team clashed with archrival Sweet Home and Hamburg at Hamburg's home course, Chestnut Ridge Park in Orchard Park. The Spartans lost to fourth-ranked Hamburg, 19-36, and defeated Sweet Home, 25-36. North was led by Geoff Hurley (fourth, 18:39), Mike Thielman (fifth, 18:42), Ryan Perry (20:04), Joe Seitz (21:01), Tom Calandra (21:07), Pat Steadman (21:21), Rob Golightly (21:28) and Steve Willert (21:29). Other laudable performances over the very difficult 5,000-meter course included Nate Chertack (23:01), Carl Copeland (23:14) and Don Seitz (24:01). The Spartan girls lost to Hamburg, 19-36, and defeated Sweet Home, 25-36. North was led by Rachel Dorogi (fourth, 24:42), Kim Berus (tenth, 25:03), Natalie Worley (25:12), Michele Bauman (25:41), Kaila Raybuck (26:21), Amy Loud (26:34), Dawn Hu (27:10), Jessica Leising (28:31), Stephanie Kranz (29:14), Shelby Gray (29:14) and Eden Fried (31:33). Last Saturday at the Clarence Invitational in Akron Falls Park, the varsity boys team finished ninth in a strong field of 16 teams with a score of 273 points. Hurley (34th, 17:55), Thielman (39th, 18:05), Joe Seitz (59th, 18:50), Perry (67th, 19:12), Calandra (74th, 19:33), Willert (20:02), Steadman (20:05) and Golightly (20:07). Competing in the JV race were Copeland (22:08), Chertack (22:21), John Boser (23:02), Matt Helm (23:23), Don Seitz (23:35), Rich Rockwell (24:06) and Charles Jordan (24:43). The Spartan girls team also ran well in windy and muddy conditions, securing eighth place out of 16 teams with a score of 260 points, just two places behind Clarence. Dorogi (35th, 22:26), Sarah Loud (41st, 22:45), Berus (57th, 23:56), Worley (63rd, 24:25), Bauman (64th, 24:29), Raybuck (25:13), Amy Loud (25:55) and Hu (26:22). Competing in the girls JV race were Leising (26:06) and Fried (27:31). |
