Starpoint's rushing attack too much for South Starpoint is only 2-6 but the way they ran the football against Williamsville South last Saturday, they looked like a playoff team. Brandon Bratek rushed 23 times for 231 yards and scored four touchdowns in Starpoint's 38-8 road win over the Billies. "They run the ball as well as anyone on the league," said South coach Kraig Kurzanski. "Bratek was difficult to contain." "Their record is very deceiving," he added. "They had Sweet Home and Grand Island on the ropes earlier in the season." Starpoint built a 25-0 lead by halftime thanks to 15- and 52-yard Bratek rushing TDs, a 43-yard TD run by Marc Sepanski and a 34-yard interception return by Andy Mullen. Bratek added TD runs of 40 and 13 yards in the second half. South got on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter when junior running back Yahs Williams took a direct snap and rushed 62 yards up the middle of the field. Kurzanski said senior Anthony Erbacher made a key block on Williams' run. Williams finished with 16 carries for 106 yards. Kurzanski said his offense turned the ball over on downs twice inside the Starpoint 30. Senior quarterback Chris Hauser completed 6 of 18 passes for 94 yards. Senior Tim Krempa had two receptions for 31 yards. Williams made 15 tackles, forced two fumbles and recovered one fumble at outside linebacker to lead the Billies' defense. Erbacher and senior Josh Burke each made eight tackles. South will play two crossover games, beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday at Pioneer (1-7) and at 7 p.m. next Tuesday, Oct. 30 at Lake Shore (2-6). Kurzanski hopes to get back sophomores Kevin Gerlach and Dillon Gallagher from their respective injuries. "We have nothing to lose," said Kurzanski. "It gives the younger kids a chance to play and the seniors two more chances to win another game." e-mail: pnagy@beenews.com |
