Peter A. Grant, former vice president of human relations at Columbus McKinnon Corporation

Peter A. Grant, 75, of East Amherst, died on Monday, Oct. 15, 2007 at Beechwood Continuing Care in Amherst.

Born in Utica, Mr. Grant graduated from Utica Free Academy and received a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Utica College of Syracuse University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Syracuse University.

He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps from 1954 to 1956. He was part of the 9677th Signal Corps Research Unit with top secret security clearance during the Cold War.

Mr. Grant was a vice president of human relations at Columbus McKinnon Corporation, retiring in 1997. He was also a member of the management team that took the corporation public.

He was a group chairman for United Way and a member of the board of Child & Family Services,

as well as an author and a genealogist.

Mr. Grant is survived by his wife, Florence; three sons, Peter H. and Stephen L., both of Williamsville, and David L. of Pendleton, N.Y.; one daughter, Amy Chait, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Nancy Inman and Trudy Burnap, both of New Harford, N.Y.; and 12 grandchildren.

Services were held on Friday, Oct. 19 at the Amherst chapel of Amigone Funeral Home.
