Arrest made two blocks from crime scene An Amherst man left with nothing, but is facing several charges in an attempted robbery. Amherst Police Officer Bob McMahon came across four males just blocks from the Sunoco Station, 665 Millersport Highway, where an attempted robbery was reported at 11:50 p.m. Monday. After questioning the men, it was discovered that two fit the description of suspects in the attempted robbery that took place just two blocks away. The clerk of the Sunoco Station, who had been punched in the face during the attempted robbery, was able to positively identify the suspects. Security cameras also caught them on tape. Gregory Mitchell, 21, of Coronation Drive was arrested and is charged with attempted robbery, assault, marijuana possession and criminal mischief. The other three were not charged. Police reported the incident started earlier in the night when four males entered the store and left without purchasing anything. Two then returned and were told by the clerk the store was closing and he couldn't sell them anything. Mitchell then allegedly demanded money from the register and from the clerk's pockets. When the clerk said he couldn't open the register and had no cash, he was reportedly punched in the face. According to police, the clerk suffered a cut from his glasses breaking, a black eye and a chipped tooth. Officer Edgar Walker was patrolling the area when he noticed the clerk inside, who appeared hurt. The clerk had locked himself inside. After making his statement, the report for the suspects was released and were found soon after. |
