South modified football continues winning ways The Williamsville South modified football team is off to its best start in recent history. Coaches Chris Heximer and Chris Murphy have coached the Billies to a 3-0 record with a hard-fought 6-0 win over Hamburg. After a scoreless first quarter, quarterback Jared Shatkin moved the football down field with key passes to Peter Giancarlo, Paul Blasio and Billy Jacobbi. This set up an 8-yard run by Luke Falzone, which put the Billies ahead for good. Tremendous plays by the offensive linemen T.J. Scamurra, Jonathan Castronova, Allen Ferri, Austin Thomas, Josh Jacobs and Tim Lamar kept the Billies moving all game. Fullback Nick Plant was able to keep the chains moving with key straight-ahead runs that led to the team's victory. Smothering team defense enabled the Billies to record their first shutout of the season. The speed of defensive players like Paul Blasio, Anthony and Michael Ferguson, Anthony Scamurra, Greg Kerr, Adam Ruslander and Kevin Mac Donald kept the Bulldogs in check all day. The Billies were also able to win the battle of field position with strong, timely punting by Joshua Neuss. The game's "fifth quarter" showcased some of the South stars of the future. Casey Nuchereno led the Billies with strong passing to receivers Ryan Moore, Khalim Evans, Tyler Piasecki and Mark Nunziato. Mike Hourigan was able to gain some good yards on the ground due to great blocking from John Wannemacher, Eric Kwietniewski, Jacob Leitten, Greg Crane and Nick Sparcino. |
