South teams continue improving

Williamsville South's cross country teams finished up an impressive week, even though they didn't register any wins.

Last Tuesday, the South girls' team lost to fourth-ranked Starpoint, 27-30, and to ninth-ranked Amherst, 27-28.

South was led by Amanda Breymeier, who finished third in 20:56, followed by Colleen Hurtubise (seventh), Jenny Mooney (eighth), M.C. Aungst (12th), Laura Johnston (13th), Maxine Meyerhofer (15th), and Rachel Zucker (17th).

On Saturday, the girls finished ninth out of 20 teams at the Alden Bulldog Stampede. Breymeier (19th), Mooney (49th), Hurtubise (67th), Meyerhofer (80th), Johnston (86th), Zucker (98th), and Lauren Mosier (115th) competed for the Lady Billies.

Santana Coon, Maggie Kreuz, Rachelle Moyer, Allison Schubert, and Gretchen Szal ran to a seventh place finish out of 12 teams in the JV race.

The South boys' team lost to Starpoint, 19-40, and to Amherst, 22-35, last Tuesday.

The Billies were led John Stark in sixth (19:01), Mike Herr (12th) Bruce Hibler (18th), Jake Vogan (23rd), and Robert Freeman (30th).

At the Bulldog Stampede, the boys' team finished 14th out of 17, despite missing several runners due to injury and homecoming responsibilities. Stark was 57th in 18:35, followed by Herr (82nd), Hibler (88th), Chris Bowers (108th), and Brian McAvoy (118th).

South faced Lake Shore and West Seneca East on Tuesday but results were unavailable before The Bee went to press. South will compete in the Clarence Fall Classic at Akron Park on Saturday.
