CCA posts 8-6-2 record

Christian Central Academy's varsity girls soccer team is 8-6-2 after six weeks of the regular season.

CCA lost a close contest against Roy-Hart, 1-0, and beat arch-rival, West Seneca Christian, 7-5, in double overtime.

In the Roy-Hart game, both teams played evenly throughout but Roy-Hart's Brittany Cooper scored the lone goal of the game.

WSC scored in the first two minutes and again 12 minutes later to go ahead 2-0. A few minutes later, CCA's Katie Smith scored an unassisted goal on a long high ball. CCA tied the game with a nifty header by midfielder Laura Albrecht.

In the second half, WSC senior Brookley Liepler scored twice to put WSC ahead; however, CCA continued to press and Smith netted two more goals, including one well-placed penalty kick, to even the score at 4-4 to force overtime.

In the second minute of overtime, WSC's Mallory Hojnacki scored to put WSC ahead again. At this point, CCA seemed to be sparked and played doggedly the rest of the game. Smith scored her fourth goal to tie the game.

Before the end of the first overtime, CCA sophomore Faye-Lyne Noel netted a nice shot, which proved to be the game winner.

Shortly later, Noel scored again for the insurance goal to end the game at 7-5 in favor of CCA.

CCA senior Alicia Fairclough had three assists for the Crusaders.

CCA's win put the team at 2-0 in the Independent Athletic Conference.
