Leroy Bernard Daniels, engineer

Leroy Bernard Daniels, 85, of Amherst, died on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007 at ElderWood Health Care at Riverwood in Grand Island.

Mr. Daniels was a combat veteran of World War II, serving in the 15th Army Air Corps as a radio operator and gunner on a B-24 bomber. He was awarded the U.S. Army Air Medal with three Bronze Leaf clusters.

He was a licensed professional engineer who designed electric power distribution layouts for manufacturing plants. He was program coordinator and an instructor in the craft testing program of the former Bethlehem Steel Corporation and taught electrical technology at Erie Community College. He was also a licensed master electrician.

Mr. Daniels held several offices at the Jurek American Legion Post in East Amherst and the Town of Amherst Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 416, where he served as commander from 1999 to 2000.

He was past president of the Holy Name and usher societies of St. Benedict's Church, Amherst. He led a Boy Scout troop and was politically active, serving as a Republican election poll watcher.

Mr. Daniel's wife, Janet, died in 1982. He is survived by two sons, William and James; three daughters, Linda Zindle, Donna Miller and Nancy Daniels-Puleo; two brothers, Edward and Donald; three sisters, Rita, Dorothy Rupp and Teresa Termer; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
