North Buffalo Bisons defeat Hornets twice

The North Buffalo Bisons Bantam Minor travel hockey team opened the WNYAHAL season with consecutive wins over the Hornets in action last week.

Goalie Connor Naughton got the win as the Bisons put 47 shots on goal in a 4-1 victory.

Lucas Buscemi (Eric Adolf), Sean Basil (Marc Bezbatchenko), Jordan Rusek (Bezbatchenko, Joshua Little) and Rusek (Sam Romano) scored goals.

In the rematch, the Bisons scored a goal in each of the three periods but had to hang on as the Hornets rallied with two late goals to narrow the margin to 3-2. A last-second shot off the faceoff was turned aside by netminder Jimmy Basil to preserve the victory. Shots favored Buffalo by a 28-22 margin, as Adolf (Craig Knowlton, Romano), Rusek (Little) and Buscemi (Jake Pugliese, Joshua Shupe) scored for the Bisons.

J.C. Grabenstatter, Ian McQuestion, Evan Thur, Brad Martynowicz, Jim Frauenhofer, Alex Fritz and James Brand completed the Bisons' attack. David Arthur remains sidelined with an injury.

The Bisons travel to Canandaigua for their first tournament of the year.
