Blue, Cougars take over top spots Only three weeks into the Buffalo In-line Hockey Group season, there is only one undefeated team in the Major division and one in the Junior division. The story of the day began in the Major division as the Killer Pandas took on the Blues. Both teams were unbeaten. After two periods, the Blues led, 9-8. Zac Pronti tied it with 4:30 left, and Taylor Setlock (Tonawanda) gave the Pandas their first lead 55 seconds later. Pat Smith (Amherst) knotted the game for the Blues with 1:27 left, and Dan Belko (Cheektowaga) took back the lead for the Blues 12 seconds later. Setlock tied it for the Pandas with only 37 seconds to go, and Smith got the game winner with 12 ticks on the clock to win 12-11. In other action: Blackhawks 10, Vikings 0 Player of the week Tyler Anderson chalked up the league's first shutout of the year. Nick Brezinski and Justin Swan (Tonawanda) netted hat tricks for the winners. Lightning 9, Warriors 8 This game went to a shootout, with Jacob Stockweather (Amherst) scoring the game winner. Brad Owens (Tonawanda) and Calvin Waley (Cheektowaga) had three goals apiece. Snipers 5, Tornadoes 2 The Snipers rode the goaltending of Matt Baran (Tonawanda) and strong defensive team play to earn the win. Junior Division Cougars 13, Knights 5 Six different players had goals, including co-player of the week P.J. Anders (Amherst), who also added six assists, vaulting the Cougars into first place. Capitals 12, Junior Blues 4 The other co-player of the week, Kevin Krawczyck, led the way for the Capitals with three goals and five assists. It was the Capitals' first win of the season. Storm 6, Ghosts 5 The Storm earned their first points of the season when Dave Millbrand (Tonawanda) scored with 1:22 left. Adam Terragnolli had four goals for the Storm. At the end of week three, the Blues and Cougars sit undefeated atop their respective divisions. Buffalo In-line Hockey Group is a not-for-profit youth in-line hockey organization in Western New York.
