Students thanked
Good news doesn't happen every day. My husband and I operate a charity where, on selected days, the fishing preserve at Little Lake George in Alden is open for fishing with an admission fee that helps keep up the charity. The area is a wonderful green space with a 15-acre spring-fed lake.

My father's dream was to create a place where youth could learn fishing and wildlife could feel at home.

This year my husband became too seriously ill to remove the October debris so the entry grass could be cut - 56 acres is huge.

My husband, our 10-year-old grandson and I are the basic volunteer crew. It has been hard work but a burden of joy. This year we had tools but no strong, capable hands. Like a miracle, 17 honor students from the University at Buffalo chose to help.

The three groups are an incredible force and true leaders of tomorrow. Their hometowns are scattered from Long Island to Buffalo. They are creative and resourceful and have caring concern for natural resources.

Due to their assistance, we are actually going to have a Fishing Day on Sunday, Oct. 14 at Little Lake George, 3418 Pohl Road, Alden.

I am impressed and so grateful to UB and these students. My faith is renewed in the younger generation. May they receive 10-fold for what they have made possible for other youth.
