JCC Book Fair authors set in October The 2007 Jewish Community Book Fair, presented by the Jewish Community Center as part of the 2007 Jewish Cultural Arts Festival, will offer a series of authors discussing their recently published books. A new format for this year's book fair has been introduced. Author events will take place over an eight-week period, rather than during a single week. Book fair programs for October will address issues of tradition and change in Judaism. Books dealing with interpersonal relations, the Jewish family, survival of faith and humanity during the Holocaust, and the ongoing adaptation of Jewish life and culture in the 21st century will be discussed. All author programs will be held at the JCC Benderson Building, 2640 N. Forest Road, Getzville. Author books will be provided by Talking Leaves and will be available for purchase and signing. The October programs are as follows: • At 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14, mother and daughter writing team, Perri Klass and Sheila Solomon Klass, will discuss their book, "Every Mother is a Daughter: The Never-ending Quest for Success, Inner Peace and a Really Clean Kitchen." The program will include a "high tea" reception and a free raffle for mother-daughter manicures and pedicures. Tickets are $12 general public, $5 for students. • University at Buffalo professor Howard Wolf will speak on his most recent book, "Far-Away Places: Lessons in Exile," at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18. He will also discuss his essays of travel exploration and cultural commentary. Free. • At 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, novelist, playwright and performer Michael Wex will discuss his two recent books, "Born to Kvetch: Yiddish Language and Culture in All Its Moods" and "Just Say Nu: Fluent Yiddish in One Little Word." Admission is $10 general public, $5 students. • Journalist Lindsay Pollock will speak on her recent publication, "The Girl with the Gallery: Edith Gregor Halpert and the Making of the Modern Art Market," at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23. Admission is $10 general public, $5 students. • Anne Kirschner will discuss her book, "Sala's Gift: My Mother's Holocaust Story," at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25. The story is based on letters and photographs from the five years Kirschner's mother spent in Nazi labor camps. Admission is $10 general public, $5 students. • At 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 29 Rabbi Dov Peretz Elkins will explore "The Wisdom of Judaism." A reception will follow. Admission is $10 general public, $5 students. Also as part of the Book Fair, pianist Gershon Wachtel will present "Overcoming Life's Difficulties: An Evening of Music, Humor and Inspiration," which is a combination of motivational speaking and performance on the piano at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21 at the Kadimah School of Buffalo, 1085 Eggert Road, Amherst.
