UB's Anderson named to all-league baseball team

University at Buffalo junior pitcher Zach Anderson (Williamsville, Williamsville East) was recently named to the 2007 Cal Ripken Sr. Collegiate Baseball League All-League Team.

Anderson, who pitched this summer for the Maryland Redbirds in the Ripken League, led the team with a 2.55 earned run average.

Anderson held opposition hitters to just a .205 batting average, the fifth-best mark of any pitcher in the league.

He finished the summer with a 3-2 record and one save, making 10 appearances and six starts. Anderson struck out 42 batters in 42.1 innings of work.

The Cal Ripken Sr. Collegiate Baseball League is a six-team, wooden-bat summer league based in the Maryland area that gives college players from across the nation a place to play during the summer.

This past spring with the Bulls, Anderson had a 2-3 record and a 4.54 ERA. He made 16 appearances and two starts, and struck out 33 hitters in 37.2 innings.
