Informational meeting set for Junior Miss

The New York State Junior Miss scholarship program will hold an informational meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10 at Susan Makai's Personal Best, 3653 Harlem Road, Cheektowaga.

The scholarship program is open to young women who are currently seniors in high school and graduating in June 2008.

The New York State Junior Miss program is part of America's Junior Miss, which awards more than $80 million annually in college scholarships.

A qualifying program will be held locally in November, followed by the statewide competition next March in Buffalo. The winner of that program will advance to the national finals.

Contestants are evaluated in several areas, including scholastics, interview, talent, fitness and self-expression.

Past winners of the Junior Miss program include Debra Messing of NBC's "Will & Grace" and Diane Sawyer of ABC News.

New York's 2007 Junior Miss, Brynn Armstrong of Orchard Park, won a full four-year scholarship to an Alabama University.
