Fast thinking helps member at center

During lunch on Sept. 17 at the Amherst Center for Senior Services, one of our members became ill. The call went over the public address system for staff to come to the lunchroom.

It seemed that before the last word was spoken that staff started to come through the door. It was amazing and very comforting to see how quickly they responded and how precise the staff worked together. They called 911, the other diners were moved to another table and the staff surrounded the table and the staff surrounded the table where the person in distress sat so that he might have privacy. His vital signs were taken, and the staff comforted the man until the EMTs arrived. Within minutes he was transferred to the hospital. I have been a member of the Senior Center for several years now and have enjoyed so many of the programs offered and spend time listening to entertainment in lounge. would like to take this opportunity to publicly say thank you to the staff at the center and all who volunteer behind the scenes.
