Predictions: Injury-riddled Bills no match for Jets The Bills lost two more starters in Sunday's 38-7 blowout loss to the New England Patriots, as middle linebacker Paul Posluszny broke his forearm and quarterback J.P. Losman suffered a sprained knee. Now it's the backups who must carry the team. Rookie quarterback Trent Edwards looked good in his first action, an 80-yard drive, capped off by a Marshawn Lynch touchdown. But it was all New England after that. This week, the Bills return home to face the New York Jets with a decimated defense and Edwards at the offensive helm. • It doesn't seem possible that the entire season could be over in just three weeks, but that's how it appears. Even the best of teams would struggle to overcome all these injuries, so what can the Bills do? A win at home over the Jets seems unlikely, but the team does have a knack for beating New York at home. - Buffalo 10, New York 7. Ken Bartolotta, Lifestyles Reporter • It seems as if every time the Bills are reeling, they come home to face the New York Jets and beat them. The Jets, like the Bills, have suffered their share of injuries, but the Bills' situation is almost an epidemic. Still, rookie signal caller Trent Edwards will have the fans behind him, and the Bills will prevail in a clinic of mistakes. A long touchdown pass to Jets' killer Lee Evans will be the difference. - Buffalo 17, New York 13. Chris Gordon, Orchard Park Editor • Although the Jets, in week 1, looked as bad as the Bills did against New England, the Jets have improved with each passing week. Chad Pennington had a solid performance Sunday against Miami and made up for the Jets' lack of defense. The Bills continue to lose players, and it will take more than rookie QB Trent Edwards to turn the luck around. - New York 35, Buffalo 10. Lisa Johnson, Lancaster/Depew Editor • There's no continuity in the Bills' defense after this string of injuries has left the unit depleted and stretched. That makes things even more difficult for the team to take down AFC East rival New York this week. Healthy, the Bills would be a better team, but that's not happening this week. - New York 23, Buffalo 17. Matt Krueger, Sports Reporter • There's no need to waste words here - this was Buffalo's best chance at a win until all the injuries left the Bills with inexperienced players starting on defense and at quarterback. Now, Buffalo will be lucky to get even two wins this season, and even then all the stars are going to have to be perfectly aligned. - New York 35, Buffalo 6. Jason Nadolinski, Sports Reporter • I thought the Jets were an opponent Buffalo could beat this season, but as injured as their starting lineup is, I don't know if they can win a game this season, let alone on Sunday. Unless Buffalo's coaching staff comes up with some brilliant schemes to overcompensate all of the injuries, the Bills will falter again. - New York 23, Buffalo 13. Patrick Nagy, Sports Reporter • It's getting difficult to watch the Bills get trampled week after week. The increasing number of injured players keeps growing, and with J.P. Losman out for a few games with a knee injury, rookie Trent Edwards will not have time to get acclimated playing in the big league. He will need to step up to the line and become a leader, throwing accurate passes to the receivers and calling plays that will work against New York. - Buffalo 21, New York 17.
