A commemorative brick walkway was installed on Friday, Sept. 15 at the Central Amherst Little League complex on Wehrle Drive.
The walkway, located behind the backstop of the Major diamond, welcomes all families and visitors to the ball field. It was conceptualized for the purpose of raising funds for much needed improvements to the facility.
Central Amherst Little League was established in 1955 and the complex on Wehrle Drive has been its home since that date. It currently consists of six diamonds serving approximately 365 families and is also the home of the Challenger League, a division for disabled children and adults.
The capital raised from this project will be earmarked for specific improvements such as fully accessible restroom facilities, a new snack stand and a new, reconfigured parking area.
The project not only assists with the league's fundraising efforts, but also serves as a venue to honor a loved one, to commemorate a child's years at Central Amherst or to show support for the children of Central Amherst by marketing a business.
It is the league's hope to have the walkway feature all current children and families involved with Central Amherst, players and families of years past, future players, and area businesses that have supported the league throughout the years.
Bricks are available in 6x9 ($150) with two lines engraved) and 12x12 ($500) with two lines engraved) inch blocks.
Order forms are available at the ball field, at www.centralamherst.com or by calling Tom Thielman at 308-0525.
